Motorola edge 60 fusion arrives in Australia for AUD $699

Yesterday

Motorola has announced the launch of the motorola edge 60 fusion in Australia, introducing a device that brings AI-driven features, a new camera technology, and a display described as the brightest in its category.

The motorola edge 60 fusion goes on sale from 22 May, becoming the first member of the edge 60 family to debut in the Australian market. The device is available in three Pantone-curated colourways: Slipstream, Amazonite, and Zephyr, with a recommended retail price of AUD $699.

One of the main highlights of the new device is its camera, which features what Motorola states is the world's first Sony LYTIA 700C sensor validated by Pantone. According to the company, this brings enhanced colour accuracy both in photography and display output. Kurt Bonnici, Head of Motorola Australia and New Zealand, said, "We are passionate about pushing the limits of what a smartphone can offer, the new motorola edge 60 fusion is a testament to this, marking an important step in bringing world-first and category-leading features to Australians. With enhanced moto ai features that are more intuitive and proactive than ever before, this phone integrates ai support smoothly to level up everyday experiences. Whether it's searching smarter, understanding your photos more deeply, or getting context-aware insights without lifting a finger, these advancements are designed to make everyday interactions more meaningful."

Bonnici also emphasised the importance of the device's camera and display: "For our customers that value Motorola's camera features, we are bringing the world's first Sony LYTIA(TM)700C camera validated by Pantone(TM) and our most immersive and brightest display yet."

He added, "We are also proud of the lengths we have gone to to ensure credibility in colour throughout the entire device, thanks to our partnership with Pantone. As the authority of colour, Pantone has influenced not only the colour of the devices themselves, but the colours captured by the impressive camera are Pantone Validated, with this validation then extending to the display."

The device includes a 6.7-inch pOLED display, which Motorola claims is its brightest ever and achieves a peak brightness of up to 4500 nits, noted to be 2.8 times brighter than the previous generation. The Super HD resolution (1220p) provides 13% more resolution compared to standard 1080p displays. The display and captured images carry Pantone Validated Colours, reflecting the result of Motorola's collaboration with Pantone Colour Institute.

AI-based features are central to the edge 60 fusion's functionality. The suite of moto ai tools includes 'Catch Me Up' for summarising notifications, 'Remember This' and 'Recall' for tagging and locating captured content, and 'Pay Attention' for live transcription and speaker identification in meetings or lectures. Beyond these, new capabilities such as Next Move, Playlist Studio and Image Studio have been integrated. Next Move provides tailored recommendations based on current on-screen content, Playlist Studio curates playlists inspired by smartphone content or prompts, and Image Studio leverages generative AI for producing images, avatars, stickers, and wallpapers.

Moto ai also plays a significant role in content creation and curation on the device. The included Photo Enhancement Engine automatically adjusts colour, brightness, and texture, as well as applies noise reduction to captured photos and videos.

The hardware specification includes a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset, 12GB of RAM with RAM Boost, and a pro-grade quad-camera system featuring optical image stabilisation for video. The 5200mAh battery is paired with 68W TurboPower charging, allowing for what the company says is a full-day's worth of battery in eight minutes when using the specific charger. Features such as wireless connectivity, IP68 and IP69 ingress protection, and MIL-STG 810H certification for durability are also present. The IP68 and IP69 ratings certify dust, water, and sand resistance, including submersion in fresh water up to 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes.

The device has a leather-inspired finish and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, which, according to Motorola, delivers up to two times better drop and scratch performance compared with prior models. The company indicates that its toughness has been assessed using MIL-STD-810H standards, with resistance to extreme temperatures and humidity designed for various environmental conditions.

At launch, customers will be able to purchase the motorola edge 60 fusion from major retailers including JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Officeworks, The Good Guys, and Amazon. Purchase incentives include a AUD $100 gift card at participating retailers and a bonus Motorola 68W charger at selected outlets, available to customers who buy the device before 11 June.
